The mission of the Western Michigan University Facilities Management Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Department is to provide updated accurate geographic information on utility & landscape infrastructure and other University assets. The GIS Department provides data to the University and GIS communities.
The GIS Department offers opportunities for students to experience and participate and run GIS projects to enahnce their academic experience and learn real world skills that the GIS industry demands.
This is done through use of in-house staff, a growing supportive relationship with WMU's Department of Geography and College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. As well as coordination with local, state, federal agencies, and the private sector.
